Default Starter Motor

Hi

My starter is toast and I am looking for a new one. Just wondering if there is one that I can buy here in Australia to save on postage of such a heavy item. Is there a Volvo or Renault one that fits?

Most of the time they are rebuildable. If the armature or the field is burnt it is sometimes cheaper to get another. The starter seems to be almost bullet-proof in the Delorean. It has a very low failure rate. I would have it tested to be sure it's bad.

I prefer the one from the Eagle Premier/Dodge Monaco. It's also smaller and thus, a little easier to install. It will draw more current than the stock starter, however. No modifications necessary.

This picture is of a starter that will NOT directly bolt on. Unless there are some factory bolt lugs in the Block I'm not seeing. The other thing is that it appears this starter would bolt on to the opposite side of the engine. Unless the picture is somehow (reversed) I have seen that before.

Yeah, that looks weird to me, too. When I go to AutoZone's website, plug in 1991 Eagle Premier and look at the starter motor, here's what I get.

Is there an AutoZone in Australia?

Much Better and rather intriguing to see the smaller motor. Looks like a nice unit. I wonder if they require a core?

From the resources section, emergency cross-over list:

Excel or Lester: 17019
Also, looking online, I also found BBB PRECISION Part # 17019

Never heard of any of those brands.

Meanwhile, Volvos using the same engine have a different starter specified (& more options). I guess the starter is unique to the D for some reason, possibly due to fit? Maybe someone can answer this.

On the DML a little while ago someone mentioned that the starter for a 1991 Eagle Premier was a bolt-on replacement. Not sure where you'd get one, though.

Especially in Australia. Not sure they sold a lot of Eagles there. . .
