[General] Speedo/odo just died...

I intend to fix the analog controls, but this has given me an excuse to buy a digital meter as well...Dakota Digital said if the speedo cable was similar to a GM one I could use this device http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...prod/prd57.htm in parallel so I could do both the electronic signal and keep the analog. Anyone know if this works or if the delorean speedo cable is like a GM one?

Are you sure it's the speedo/odo that died or just the cable that won't turn any more (angle drive defect..., stuck upper cable)?

I'm in the process of replacing the angle drive with a HAL and electronical-to-mechanical drive. If that works out, you can still use the upper cable and original speedo/odo. This will be as costly as replacing the current system with the dakota digital system.

BTW having a speedo/odo repaired and calibrated is not that expensive.
The option you're offered by DD now will turn out to be more expensive than repair.

I agree it's probably just a broken cable, but I intend to replace the whole system...as you said, it's pretty cheap. I just wanted a digital one as backup (and it looks cool). I've seen a speedo cable that's really long and eliminates the service counter box..might just go with that
