Default Winter Projects in Garage

Hey guys,

I am about to start my first projects this winter in the garage. Just wondering what some people use to heat their garages to do work? It gets pretty cold in there on the east coast, and I wanted to look at my options to make it tolerable. I'm not looking for it to be 70 degrees in there, but just warmer than it is now. Any suggestions?

We just have a little portable ceramic heater (low fire risk and low energy usage) for my parents garage. It oscillates, has a thermostat, and will kick off if it's tipped over. All for about $30 from Wal Mart. Keep in mind though, I live in the South, and my folks oversize 2 car garage (800 square feet) is fully insulated.

Just a normal kerosene heater....cheap & effective, at least for my garage.

In my area electrical heat is cheaper then bottled propane. If you have natural gas then that would be the way to go. I have an in the wall heat pump but it always ices up on me when running it for heat. I can switch it to resistance heat but it's 10 Kwatt so expensive to run.

I would not recomend an in the wall heat pump. Spend the extra money to get an outside unit and more efficiency.

Not a problem here in the semi-tropics
