What do we all think of this guy? My ears perked up a few years ago when his name was thrown around as a prospective Top Gear America host.
I never watched the Man Show, and I don't regularly listen or watch anything he is currently doing. I've watched an interview with him recently, and I watched two SpeedTV specials where he was featured. One show was him showing off his hideous Nissan 350z. His had all bone stock exterior except for a hideous stillen front bumper which made the car look like Carol Anne from Poltergeist(swelled cheeks). It was really pepboys-esqe, and immediately lowered my opinion of this guy's "car credibility." Next was one of the hour long test drives(commercial) with him test driving the new (at the time)Dodge Magnum. He didn't really have anything constructive or interesting to say, just sort of muttered comments like an uninterested spouse may during a test drive. I think we all know someone who knows just enough about cars to embarrass themselves when they try to engage in conversation about them. This is the kind of individual who learned everything they know about cars from playing Gran Turismo. Does anyone else get the idea that he's just faking his way around knowing about cars? Hmm... I wonder how many credits it cost him to put the stage 1 body kit on that Nissan? I think I spelled his name wrong, too. Oh well.

I'm not sure about Adam Corolla's automotive knowledge, but I have to believe that Jay Leno would be a perfect host for this type of program.

if we have to question him then he is not a wise choice for such a program. Leno would be a really great host and I sure hope they don't "Americanize" Top Gear. The BBC version is best.

I say no. I know he's a car guy and all, but his monotone style gets tiresome after a while.
I say they should look for unknowns and 1 known. I dont think he has the draw power. Besides, the host for a show like Top Gear should have a last name of a tougher car than a Corolla... Like... Steve Enzo or Bugatti Jones. Hell yeah.

Personally I have never and don't really care for Adam C., Leno however, would be good for an American version of Top Gear. If they do make this show here, it better be as original, engaging, funny (check, with Leno), blunt (I see that as a problem with likely sponsors), have the right chemistry, and be as beautifully filmed as the BBC version, to survive an American market.

Last I heard about an American Top Gear, it was going to be on NBC (Strike1!) with Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust and Erza Dryer (http://www.automobilemag.com/feature....html)....they wanted Erza to play "Captain Slow" according to him (strike 2!)
(here's that link: http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...ica/index.html) Thing is, that was almost two years ago...... Of course, I'd welcome it if they finally decided to make it, if only to plug the holes in their schedule.......

they canned top gear usa a while ago... they filmed the pilot, and nbc didnt pick it because knight rider was tanking. Explain that logic to me...

Leno should've just made his late night show into Top Gear. He's opinionated enough to be interesting, funny enough to be entertaining, and seems like a good guy overall.
I'm glad they canned Top Gear USA for now. With the sorts of shows they're now producing(especially with low budgets because of the economy) I'd rather them wait until they think they can get the formula right. Leno is the only American automotive personality that has a fingerprint on the industry comparable to Clarkson's. They've both been part of the car-loving communities for ages. If not Leno to lead Top Gear USA, who? The only other personality that I can think of that has a built in draw, loves cars, and is equipped with humor is ironically, David Letterman. I doubt he'd ever do anything like Top Gear, though. I hope one day they get around to giving us the show we've all been drooling over for years.

I'd rather not see this guy on TV for this reason, he’s better known as a comedian, not a auto enthusiast. anyone listen to his radio show in the morning, it’s in California.
