I am thoroughly confused about the early vs. late A/C Panels.
My understanding is that the EARLY A/C panel had no white outline around the blue/red markings around the temp control and the Rear Defroster symbol was printed on the front, visible whether the light was on or not. Like this: ![]() My understanding of the LATER A/C panel was having the white outline around the temp markings and a REar Defroster symbol that was only visible when the light is on...with no lights on, there is nothing but blank space at the bottom. Like this: ![]() Here's my confusion: I have been looking at every picture of different cars I can find, and it appears that most of the "early" cars I see have the "later" A/C panel described above, and most of the "later" cars have the "early" one. The "early" picture above is from 16999, currently on Ebay. The "later" picture above is from my car, 1905, which is a VERY original, unmolested car. I have seen several that seem defy the "rule". Am I confused about which is early and which is late? If not, I am wondering if what we think we know about this is really accurate. Help? Scott

This is the A/C panel that is on my car.
I've been told it's an early VIN panel.

My 2075 looks like Ozzie's, but our VINs are very close so that would be expected.

Here's a picture of the A/C Panel on an 83 (15500). I'm so torn right now, I'd really like to have an Ipod connection and some kick ass sound but I'm hesitant to change it from the original. I just don't think I can do it.
Guess I'll just look like an idiot with some earphones in. Kirk |

The first picture in your thread entry looks alike my 2572 (aug 81) and 6513 (nov 81, model 82).
I am told that your second picture's A/C heater switch is for early models (up to what number I am not sure). Perhaps David can clear that? Welmoed.

I have an extra one like the one in the first posting if anyone wants it for the cost of shipping (a padded envelope and 1st class stamp). Dan |

This is the VERY early A/C Panel. The last car I saw this on was a 900 series VIN.
